Deep-clean your bathroom

A few easy steps to a squeaky clean bathroom that the mother would be proud of;

First things first, your shower head. Simply fill a plastic bag with white vinegar and tie around the shower head so it’s fully submerged in the liquid, leave to soak overnight and run in the morning to clean through.

(TIP) Leave the window open for at least an hour a day to lower the room’s humidity level.

Wet wipes are your friend!

Around the toilet inside and out, unwanted build-up of dust and grime can easily be removed, furthermore don’t throw out the old toothbrushes! They can be handy to get in those small narrow areas for a good scrub.

Sweep and mop, sweep the dust away then mop up afterwards with hot soapy bleach water – Be careful and don’t slip! Rinse away the soapy residue and leave to dry.

REMEMBER: Wear protective bathroom gloves to avoid any harmful irritation to your skin.

Diluted vinegar mixture can be used again to help rinse and wipe down bath tubs after use to avoid build-up of dirt – for a real thorough clean, a sponge can be dipped in bicarbonate of soda, fill the bath tub with warm water, fill biological washing powder and leave for 24 hours, this should remove all hard stains and grime!

Happy Cleaning Yorkshire.

Go green today

The ECO-conscious mind-set is a rapidly growing social attitude throughout the world, we want to play our part and bring a few ideas to the table of how we can look to live a more sustainable lifestyle and reduce our carbon footprint.

Energy Efficient lighting
LED lighting is all the rage, this is becoming very popular in many households now, and throughout Yorkshire from what we've seen, they require less energy to power equating to less money spent on energy bills!

Replace your old boiler
That’s exactly what we’re here for! A new boiler in Yorkshire will be the difference and contribute to lower bills and a greener environment, we look to implement renewable energy sources in your household, if your boiler is up to 15 years old, then it’s definitely time to give us a call.

Reduce, reuse and recycle
Easy enough to remember, now put it into practise. Before throwing away something you may think has now served its purpose, have a quick thought about whether or not it can be upcycled and put to good use elsewhere e.g. empty bottles for lights/candle holders!

We know that in our current fast paced consumerist society we live in today, it can be difficult to make time for a green transition, but even the small things all contribute effectively to creating a sustainable and efficient planet and household.

Please call today: 0800 500 3103 we can offer you a free no obligation quotation, covering all over Yorkshire and the Humber.

It’s time to shine with NEW interior design

With our current on-going home inspiration campaign, including tips and tricks for your household, we want to share with you anything we feel is valuable and affordable!
We've visited a vast array of homes in Yorkshire, all with various styles and tastes, each to their own we say!

Home tip to share

Painting your radiator
Firstly begin in preparation and make sure your radiator is completely cold before applying your paint.

Clean the radiator removing any dust/grease, and rub down with sandpaper lightly.

Place down sheets below to avoid any paint spillage on your floor!

We advise either anti-corrosive primer if you have any rusty spots on your radiator

There are a range of radiator paints that are available to use on the market, including solvent-based paints.

Apply two coats to your radiator, allow the first coat to dry and begin with the next, (ideally 24 hours afterwards)

Let the paint set in before turning your radiator on again, you may get a strong smell of paint at first, however this will quickly fade.

Happy painting Yorkshire, that lick of paint could make all the difference to your desired room.

Energy saving – We’re here to help!

A few useful tips to think about;

Switch off from standby

Make sure all your electrical appliances are turned off at the mains! By switching off from standby this can save you up to £40 a year! That equates to nearly 200 Freddo’s you could buy!

Water and Taps

Most of us are guilty of having the tap running full blast whilst brushing our teeth morning and night, cut back and only use when it’s really necessary, along with boiling your kettle for your morning brew, only boil the amount of water that is needed and not a serving for 7! These minor cut-backs can help to achieve noticeable savings on your energy bills.

Control your heating

Here at Scarbrook we’re able to make you aware of the benefits of having and being able to take full control of your thermostat, even by just turning down your thermostat by just one degree you can save between £70 - £90 a year!

Turn off the lights

Switching to LED lights is one way of going about it, however simply turning off the lights when you’re not present in the room should become second nature, coming into Summer, draw them curtains and let the natural daylight shine!
